The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has reaffirmed its commitment to eliminate gender-based and other related crimes in places of learning in the state.

Speaking through the Team Head of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Unit, Bunmi Orekoya, during the agency’s campus activation on SGBV advocacy at the Pan-Atlantic University in Lagos on Wednesday, the Executive Secretary, Lagos DSVA, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, noted that the agency was combat-ready to prevent all forms of sexual and gender-based assault on school campuses.

She said, “The theme of the seminar; ‘Issues surrounding SGBV on Campuses; Our Collective Responsibilities’ was apt, as it highlights the Agency’s initiative on SGBV advocacy as part of efforts of the Lagos State Government to eradicate all forms of Sexual and Gender-based violence in Lagos State.

“We urge the students to speak out and report any concern that arises on and off campus to the relevant authorities at all times.”

On his part, the agency’s Head of the Community Engagement Department, Mr. Damilare Adewusi, highlighted some SGBV characteristics on campus while also clarifying the key terms such as gender-based violence, physical assault, emotional abuse, rape, defilement, consent, and other SGBV-related terms.

While drawing attention to the agency’s numerous SGBV-related support services such as legal aid, psychiatric counselling, rescue operations, and empowerment, Adewusi urged all stakeholders on campuses to report any sexual and gender-related crime in their immediate surroundings to the relevant authorities.
