EPL: What Guardiola told me about Arteta – Rio Ferdinand

by James Davies

Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand has revealed what Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola told him about Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

Ferdinand said Guardiola told him that Arteta is a hard worker, adding that the former Arsenal midfielder is so passionate and knows what he is doing.

The former England defender said this on Monday following Arsenal’s Premier League 3-2 win over Manchester United on Sunday.

Speaking on his show FIVE, Ferdinand said, “Patience and time.

“Getting a manager you believe in, the club did in [Mikel] Arteta.

“Pep [Guardiola] said this when I interviewed him about Arteta, he said, ‘The guy works so hard. He is such a hard worker, he is so passionate, so involved, so engrossed in what he is doing, and he knows what he’s doing’”.

He added, “You can see why the club have taken him and stuck by him at the beginning when it was not going so great. Because they saw the long picture of what it looked like.

“The big difference between the two sides was one manager looked like he had been there for the time he had, Arteta, and one looked like he was at the beginning of his journey.”

Arteta was Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City during his time at Etihad.
