Lagos, Rivers, seven others report 272 new COVID-19 cases, one death

Nine states reported 272 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, according to the figures released on Sunday by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

The health agency also reported one additional COVID-19 related death.

The NCDC disclosed this on its official website on Sunday.

According to the agency, the 272 new cases were recorded from Lagos, Rivers, Ondo, Oyo, Abia, and four other states.

Lagos with the highest numbers for new infections reported 182 cases, Rivers – 34, Ondo – 24, Oyo – 10, Abia – 7, Ogun 7, Ekiti – 5, Delta – 2 while Plateau reported one new infection.

The health agency said the 272 new COVID-19 infections have brought the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country to 170,895.

However, 164, 788 COVID-19 patients have recovered and have been discharged in the country, the agency said.

With one COVID-19 related death recorded, the death toll from the virus has risen to 2,132. NCDC said.

It said that a multi-sectoral National Emergency Operations Centre, activated at Level 2, had continued to coordinate the national response activities.
